Business payment recovery

We found funds. You may be entitled to claim them.

If you received an email from Recover & Retain, our review of public records identified a payment that may be connected to your business — such as an outstanding warrant or uncashed check. The record is a starting point for verification, not confirmation that a claim will be approved.

01 / Why we contact you

We find the funds. You make the claim.

We review public payment records and identify possible claims associated with businesses. Our email tells you that we found a record worth checking; it does not mean an agency has confirmed your entitlement.

Recover & Retain is a private company, not a government agency. The organisation holding the payment decides whether it can be claimed, reissued, or paid.

02 / What the record means

Warrants & uncashed checks

A government warrant is a payment instrument, often similar to a check. An uncashed check is a payment that appears not to have been cashed. Records can be outdated or incomplete; the issuing organisation verifies the payee, amount, and claim process.

We do not guarantee eligibility, recovery, or a particular timeline.

03 / How it works

A straightforward process

STEP 01

We find a record

We review public records and identify a possible payment connected with your business.

STEP 02

You review and decide

We disclose the claim details and proposed fee in writing. You can review the agreement and claim directly yourself.

STEP 03

You submit and receive

If you choose our help, we prepare claim paperwork for your review. The agency decides the claim and pays you directly when approved.

04 / Clear fees before you decide

No payment upfront

We charge only for a recovery covered by a signed agreement. The exact percentage and how it is calculated are written into the agreement before you sign. No fee is due unless you receive the funds covered by that agreement.

You may always choose to make a claim directly with the relevant agency, where its rules allow.

Fees depend on the claim

County or agency payments outside California SCO

Our proposed success fee is generally 10–20% of the amount recovered, depending on the work involved and applicable rules. The specific rate and calculation basis must be stated in writing before signing. Any legal limit or agency restriction controls.

Covered California State Controller’s Office claims

A separate rule set applies. For covered SCO unclaimed-property claims, investigator fees are capped at 10% of the property returned, and required disclosures must be made before the agreement is signed. We do not apply the 10–20% range to covered SCO claims.

Sample Finder’s Agreement

Read the example before deciding whether to work with us. It uses blank fields and illustrates the general terms for a non-SCO county or agency payment. It is not a customer-specific offer, does not identify a claim, and is not for signing.

A real agreement must identify the claim and agency, state the exact fee and calculation basis, and be reviewed for the rules that apply to that claim. California SCO property requires separate compliant terms and disclosures.

Services and fee

Finder will provide the search findings and prepare claim paperwork for Client’s review. Client decides whether to submit the claim and signs agency forms. If Client receives funds for the covered record, Client will pay Finder a success fee of [__]% of [the amount actually received for the covered record]. For non-SCO claims, the proposed fee is generally 10–20% where permitted. The exact percentage and calculation basis must be completed in writing before both parties sign, subject to applicable law and agency rules.

No upfront fee; no recovery, no fee

No fee is due before Client receives the covered funds. No success fee is due if Client receives no funds for the covered record. No other expenses are charged unless separately described and approved in writing by Client before they are incurred.

Client choice and agency decision

Client may choose to make a claim directly. The agency alone decides eligibility and payment. Finder does not guarantee approval, amount, or timing. Client remains responsible for truthful information and for reviewing and signing claim documents.

06 / Questions

Frequently asked questions

A few points recipients often want to check before replying.

Can I claim it myself?

Yes. You are free to contact the agency and file directly where permitted. We help with locating the record and preparing paperwork, which may save research and administrative time.

Is Recover & Retain a government agency?

No. Recover & Retain LLC is a private company. The relevant county, agency, or government office makes the eligibility decision.

What will I pay?

There is no upfront fee. For non-SCO county or agency claims, a proposed fee is generally 10–20% where permitted. Your specific percentage and calculation basis are written into the agreement before you sign. Covered California SCO claims have a separate 10% maximum.

When is the fee payable?

Only after you have received funds covered by the signed agreement. If no covered funds are paid to you, no success fee is due.

Does a public record guarantee that I can collect the money?

No. A listing is only a possible match. The agency may require documentation and determines whether payment can be claimed or reissued.

What happens after I sign?

We provide the findings covered by the agreement, including available agency and payment references, and prepare claim paperwork for you to review. You remain in control of whether to submit a claim.
